WEEK 4 (LMS, CMS)

Week 4 guys! Who is excited? Me!!! Still me, forever me hahaha okay let’s just continue on my reflection for this week! For today's class, we were asked to search for the information about Learning Management System (LMS), Course Management System & Content Management System. I have never heard of these terms before so pretty clueless when Dr. Fariza was talking about it just now.

Based on the information I got, LMS is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting and delivery of electronic educational technology;. One of the examples for LMS is SMP web. It is the web that used by National University of Malaysia to handle students' registration for course and to analyze everything related to students' information. Okay so with the help from this software application, we should pretty much use it wisely since it is so easy to handle. Even so, I thought that this kind of application like SMP web is still an online basis that will definitely face technical problem in future. There is nothing we can do about it but still if just we have something to make it better for more years to come I guess it will be great.

As for Course MS, it is actually a collection of software tools providing an online environment for course interactions. I used this kind of software a lot after I am here in UKM. We are connecting to each other using iFolio. MS can record students' grade and we as the students can review it as well! I really love Course MS, you know. It is so handful. I love the fact that we can do flipped classroom using this tool, for instance iFolio. We can share everything on it and the others will have the chance to review it as well. We have to keep improving the software (if it is possible) for a better use!

Ok moving on to the last one, Content MS which is a system used to manage a website. So this is a pretty clear statement. The system that enable an organization to seamlessly create, edit, review and publish electronic text is called Content MS. Dropbox, blog, GoogleDrive & even Weebly are the examples of Content MS. I really love the idea of editing text online especially on Weebly (it is not because our lecturer recommended it but yes it is because of her hehe). We can share everything on Weebly and people from across the globe can view it and share their thought as well (just like what you are doing now hehe).  Of course, girls love to spend lots of time editing this kind of stuff (me! Me! Me!), but considering it to be helpful in the future is spot on! I have shared the information we obtained from the internet under Assignment section. Okay guys, let’s end it here. Stay tuned for more! Thanks.

WEEK 3 (COMPUTER AS TOOL, TUTOR & TUTEE)

Hi guys! It is our second class on GE155! Yup, still excited and forever will be hehe let’s get started with the reflection on week 3 yea? So we were asked to create a Weebly account today!!! No, I was not that excited at first because I have no idea what Weebly is hahaha I was like “Weebly? What is that? Seriously what is that?” (hahaha) but we got nothing to worry about since Dr. Fariza was there to help explaining it. We were all familiar with Blogspot, yes? Weebly is pretty much like it. But! Yeap, there is a BUT there.

Weebly is so cool and not as close to Blogspot in any ways. Dr. Fariza gave us some time to explore before she proceeded to the next lesson. Well, with the features Weebly had, we going to spend the whole day editing our site hahaha we love this kind of stuff don’t we? So, today's lesson in class was on computer as tool, tutor & tutee.  Well I never thought of this term before & again, being blessed having to attend this subject for this semester. In this era of a peak development of the country, we can't deny the fact that we are exposed to the use of different technology in our daily life. Computers for instance, contributing in various ways especially in education. Students can use various programs installed in the computer such as statistical analysis, super calculation, or word processing in order to help them in a variety of subjects. Now, there are so many online apps available to help enhancing students' understanding towards certain subjects. With the help of computer, students can access Powtoons, Mindomo, or Mystery Skype. This is what we call computer as a tool. Well, to be honest with you guys, I think teachers nowadays should be familiar with this kind of modern technologies since it is so easy to work with and interactive as well. The last thing we want is to have students that being bored in class and tend to sleep without paying any attention. So, in order to attract them, why don’t we as teachers try other alternatives to overcome this problem? I realized that teachers nowadays in school still stick to traditional ways of teaching which is just simply teach everything from textbook. That is something we need to work on.

Moving on, computer acts as a tutor when students are tutored by the computer executing certain program(s). The computer presents some subject material, the student responds, the computer evaluates the response, and, from the results of the evaluation, determines what to present next. At its best, the computer tutor keeps complete records on each student being tutored. In my opinion, students should be exposed to the use of computers in education because what we going to have from computers will never ends. Of course, students should be monitored so that they will stay on the right track to the very end.

Last but not least, computer as a tutee. This actually possible to happen when the student or teacher doing the tutoring must learn to program, to talk to the computer in a language it understands. Let’s make a good bond with computer yea? (haha) Okay I think that is it for this week’s reflection. I shall update more upcoming reflections soon. Thanks guys!

WEEK 2 (GMAIL)

Hi guys!!! It is my very first reflection. This is so exciting!!! I could not help myself from being so excited, though so please bare with me yea? So we met Dr. Fariza which has introduced herself to us and I could not be more amazed than I was just now after I knew what she has achieved in her life. She is such an idol to each and every one of us. She received her PhD from The University of Nottingham. Jealous!!!!

Ok let's proceed, she told us that we have to do a reflection every time class ends. This is going to be our marks too. Wow, mind-blowing. I never thought that a reflection could be so important haha but this is just a simple one so I do not mind doing this. Let’s get started! So first thing first, we were assigned to create an e-mail address. Ehem, a formal e-mail address, to be specific. Dr. Fariza said that having a formal email address is crucial. Well, I have created one before I entered UKM so I got nothing to worry about. Even so, I noticed most of my friends had to do the new one. It is obvious that it is because they did not have a formal e-mail address. No additional numbers or symbols, just our name in it. I realized that a formal e-mail address shows our professionalism and ethics we have. Professionalism is the number one reason on why we need to have a formal e-mail address.

Moving on, we were then assigned to create a signature. The entire class do not have the signature at the bottom of our e-mail before. Wait, what is signature? Okay, signature needs us to include our full name, program, faculties and phone number. My friend at that time had trouble to get it right. But, after a few times trying, I learnt from her that we actually need to pay attention to click on 'save' so that we can have a perfect one. The next thing we assigned to do is to e-mail anything to Dr. Fariza. Well, she just wanted to show us how signature actually works. Again and again, we were all amazed that signature is really shown at the bottom of our e-mail! Ops, there is another one. Me, myself together with few of my friends do not pay attention to the importance of having a subject every time we want to send an e-mail. I used to ignore this particular little thing without realizing that we actually showing the receiver our weakness on the right way of approaching him/her. Well, by not having a subject to our e-mail, there is a high risk for the receiver to ignore our e-mail that we thought could be so important to him/her.

Fuh is that a lot for the first day? What do you think? Well, I do not think so. I could not wait for more! (this is not a fake sayings). So, I guess this is it! See you guys on the next reflection! Stay tuned.
