WEEK 14 (EXCEL & VIDEO PRESENTATION)

12/18/2015

Noooooooo I do not want this semester to be ended!!! It feels just we just met even we have been through this journey together for almost 4 months. The fact that today is our last class even two hours feel like 20 minutes, though. So Dr promised us that we were going to talk about Microsoft Excel today. I have used Microsoft Excel before, so I am quite familiar with the functions. I used Microsoft Excel before to record marks or any types of data but surprisinglyyyyy I have not using it wisely enough since Microsoft Excel can work on its own brilliantly. Such a lame gen-Z I am I must admit it haha so after a brief explanation from Dr. Fariza, I believe that I can now use Microsoft Excel to record anything in a short amount of time.

I made a silly mistake when I made another Grade Table without realizing that it was under the same row of Total Marks I had at the very left of my data table analysis. So I could not move the Grade Table since it has been defined with the grades I had in the first table. I could not remove the Grade Table since it has been defined according to the row of the first table. But, nothing to worry about! With the power of this brain (omg hahaha) I figured out way to fix it without re-doing the whole table from scratch. I just simply made a new Grade Table then I defined it again. Well of course, I need to delete the grades I have already have there but it is so much better rather than re-do everything, right? Hehe so finally I got to remove the first Grade Table and happily have a new one! Exciting? Yes, I am! Could not be any happier (that’s pretty over the top). Moving on, Dr. Fariza asked us to figure out more function we can do with Microsoft Excel including the rank of students’ marks and the analysis of each and every subject we have in our table. Well, I can do that. It is always our job as a student to figure out things by ourselves so that we can learn by experience.

Our class today continued with video presentation (except for that one ‘special’ group that already presented their Powtoon haha). My group was the one who presented ours first. To be honest, I am not confident enough about the result of our video since we did not have anything that is original except for the short review. Izza, which is one of our classmates did mention about that and we could not agree more. She is right hehe surprisingly Dr. Fariza did not mention anything about the video we got from YouTube. She just requested us to do extra review on the moral value that we can gain from the video itself since it is a very powerful video. We said yes and of course will improve our video. What had I learnt from others’ presentation is that we should really concern about the volume quality of the video when we record ourselves talking.  We have to give extra attention during editing session. We have to make sure that the video volume is high enough so that the audiences can hear without wondering what the video is all about.

Moreover, I also learnt that we need to aware of the surrounding of the place that we are going to shoot our video at. Pay attention to the distractions from the sounds around us just in case it will distract audiences’ from focusing on the point that will be pointed out during the video presentation. One thing about today’s presentation is that Dr. Fariza expected more than what we have presented to her. My heart sank to the deepest land on earth. I know, we were not good enough but I promised you, Dr (of course you will be reading this right hehe) that I will improve everything so that I will soon come up with a great video (touching moment).

Oh that is a pretty long reflection. Of course, it is the last day of this semester. I do not know when will we going to have Dr. Fariza as our lecturer again (sobs sobs). I need to meet her up personally later since I want to know more about her experiences studying abroad and got to explore so many countries. Envy, I am haha but it is being jealous in a good way though.

So, the results of my Microsoft Excel assignment as well as my group’s video are in the Assignment section. This is the very last reflection of mine, thank you so much for reading this section from week 2 until today, week 14. I will still updating the other sections I got in my Weebly though! Good bye <3 Oh by the way, we got souvenirs from Dr!!! There are notebook as well as a pen!!! Such a beautiful notebook of Nottingham Universityyyyy eiiiii I love it (thanks Dr. Fariza hohoho) Okay once again, bye guyss I am going to miss writing reflections :( huhu

p/s: Dear Dr, I know you will be reading this since you need to evaluate me hehehe I would like to say thanks for everything you have done. I hope we can still meet another time. We are in the same faculty anyway hehehe I am going to miss you Dr. All your "celoteh" and amazing story about your journey and experiences. Take care and thank you once again. Love you ;)

WEEK 12 (STORYBOARD)

12/4/2015

DECEMBER SAID HELLO, A MONTH TO GO BEFORE 2016 (omg no). We are in week 12 already? Is this for real? I could not believe that we are about to end this semester in GE1155! We only got two more weeks to go (nooooooooooo). Ok let’s just move on to the real business okay? So we were already in the process of completing our video. We were expected to have at least an idea what our video is all about. We need to write down the draft of it in the form of storyboard which I already familiar with it and basically just present the idea. We were asked to tell the idea to Dr. Fariza so that she can help us fix what necessary. We ended up with an idea of doing a scene but Dr Fariza insisted to make sure there is a moral value at the ending of our video so that the video is powerful enough to leave a “scar” to the audiences. The impact to the audiences is crucial since that is how we can tell whether it is a good video or not. We were soon realized that it is quite hard to implement the moral value in our scene so we decided that we want to change it by choosing a video from YouTube and just give some review on moral values or impact at the end of the video. We were expected to have the video with us before week 14 because we will be going to present it in front of the class. Nerve-wracking, I know.  We have to definitely nailed this assignment. Well, Dr. Fariza did expect something “Wow” from us I can tell. To be honest, I have no idea how we are going to accomplish that. This is the real World War Z (Gen-Z hahaha). We will try our best, insyaAllah.

WEEK 11 (MOVIE MAKER)

Look how fast the time flies. I could not believe this is really happening. Okay, let’s talk about today’s class shall we. Based on the brochure we did last week, we were now got to present about it in front of the class. Well, we all chose great places to visit. We shared a lot of information and we got to know others’ dreams as well. I got to know so many places from the others’ presentation since some of them are undiscovered ones (or maybe it is just for me, I am not sure haha).

From what I have learnt from today’s presentation, we need to pay attention on the size of the font we chose to write the information on the brochure. I was having quite a difficulty reading the information since the font size is too small. Other than that, I also learnt that brochure should not be too packed with graphics or text. A brochure should only include those that the important ones and graphics that is not too busy. The graphic too on the other hand need to have a good resolution since the last thing we want to happen to our graphic is it to be blurry. It would not look good once we printed it out.

As for my brochure, I think that I should included more information on the places I wanted to visit because it is super short and people might not have enough knowledge on why should people have to visit the place. So that is pretty much my review on the presentation. I got the result of my brochure under the Assignment section.  Feel free to explore, okay?

So, Dr. Fariza did mention about our new task. Excited, I am. I love this kind of thing. Well, we were assigned to make a video using Movie Maker or any other online application available. Oh my, I had the sense that this task is going to be challenging since it is not easy to make a great video, though. The video is based on the topic which is for my group is Thinking Skills in ICT. We were supposed to start the process by making the storyboard first. Storyboard is basically a draft of what our movie is going to look like. Well before that, we were asked to Google the information on the elements of multimedia first so that we had a glimpse what it is all about.  I am quite familiar with this since I took Sastera back when I was in Form 6 and making the video incorporated with the elements was one of our assignments. So yeah, I didn’t have any trouble understanding it. Storyboard contains frames of the graphics that we are going to showcase including with other details such as the text, narration, audio, visual, as well as the animation. The video is supposed to have all the elements I mentioned before. The criteria needed ensure that the video is complete.

Dr. Fariza did show us our seniors’ video on various topic under GE1155.  We did come out with few DOS and DON’TS based on the videos. One thing that I learnt is the text in the video should be big enough so the audiences would not have any problem reading it. Moreover, we should also note that the volume quality of the video is good because it is important for the audiences to catch whatever things that we are going to say. Dr. Fariza also highlighted that we should never use Powtoon to do this assignment since it does not fulfil one of the criteria need in the elements of multimedia which is video. Yes, we need video in a video.

I hope you guys get the point haha so the video is coming up soon. I will update it under Assignment section. So, stay tuned! See you guys again, bye.

WEEK 10 (BROCHURE)

11/20/2015

For the first time in my life, I got to check out how Microsoft Publisher actually works. All these years, Microsoft Publisher has been here in my laptop as “accessories” hahaha this is a bad habit, okay? You should explore everything since it is here for a reason. Jot that down haha Dr. Fariza assigned us to do a brochure on our dream vacation. She insisted not to do it based on our current topic. It’s going to be booooringggg, she said >< We thought so, too. I have been through our friends from Special Education course’s brochures and it is so packed with information that nobody will ever read it. I am definitely agreed when she asked us to do the brochure about our dream vacation.

So by doing this task I am now quite familiar with Microsoft Publisher (well, at least better than I was before).  Even so, I still had few problems while completing this task since it was my first time doing it hehe I wanted to make the brochure full with chosen but I cannot make my graphic parallel since I did not drag it to the right position. Well, I just knew that we have to leave some space from every angle of the brochure. There is nothing I can do about this. This is not a poster, I said to myself haha I reviewed it by using “print view” several times to ensure the graphic and all the information needed is parallel. I spent quite some time on finding a great photos with great resolution so I would not ended up having a blurry photos.

I learnt that there are so many site we can visit (other than Google Images) in order to obtain good photos. For example, I went through Tumblr site which I thought has such a collection of great photos with creative editing. We can also visit various travelling and backpacking ideas site to obtain the photos too. Why depend on one and same source only when you can have plenty more? Okay, reflection of this week stops here, I guess. I will update the result of my brochure in Assignment section soon. So, stay tuned!

WEEK 9

Hi guys. So we were all done with our report!!! Right on time hehe Dr. Fariza asked us to upload it on our Weebly but still we have to hand in the hardcopy err well,  we totally forgot about that haha never mind let’s proceed. I would like to share with guys regarding our findings on Dependencies on ICT among Students. So we distributed the questionnaires to various higher institutions in Malaysia that soon came up with the students tend to depend on ICT. Well, I guess it is not a shocking result since we are all in 21st Century. We know that we use ICT a lot as a daily basis. We have our smart phone everywhere we go, as well as laptop. We use it to complete various tasks and assignments as well as for information searching.

So, Dr. Fariza told us that we need to make a presentation on the results of our report using Powtoon. Since we already collected the data, we got to showcase the findings creatively. I have no idea how to present such data using Powtoon so I had quite sometimes handling the confusion haha but this is going to be exciting I supposed. I am already familiar with Powtoon so I don’t think our group going to face any problem in the future (well, we hope so).  I will showcase the video on under Assignment section too! See you guys next time!

WEEK 8 (REPORT)

Hello guys! We are on week 8 already. We meet again guys! I will share my reflection on today’s class okay. My group has done with our questionnaire so it is the time to proceed to completing our report! Dr. Fariza assigned us to start writing the report based on what she has written in front of the class. There are few criteria need such as introduction, literature review, research objectives, methodology, finding, discussion and conclusion. She did the brief for a while and left it to us until the end. I have some problem regarding the differences between findings and discussion. Not just that, I had a problem too regarding on how to write data collection and data analysis. I got so confused until I asked Dr. Fariza so many times hahaha she was so lovely. She never gets tired explaining those to me until I got the idea of it. She did mentioned few tricks on using Microsoft Word. Okay this is the best part. We were all be like "Ohhhh now we know" (LOL). The tricks really help us in order to make our report writing easier. Instead of clicking the "Enter" button to move on to another page, Dr. Fariza introduced us to "Page Break" that will simply do so for us. Ironic, right? We feel like we know everything but actually, we do not hehehe moreover, now I know on the function of Document Map together with how did "Headings 1, 2 and 3" work in our writing. That is pretty much like it.  I am going start writing the report with two of my other friends and will soon share the report under Assignment section. Thanks for reading guys!

WEEK 7 (GOOGLE FORM)

10/23/2015

Week 7 yay! I was feeling good today hehe nice weather with nice aura of my beloved Faculty of Education, I was more than ready for today’s class. I told ya! I had a good feeling because I love love love this task so much (scream). Are you guys wondering why I feel that way? Hahaha it is because I get to design my own questionnaire using Google Form!!! Let me be honest with all of you. Before this, I was wondering how people make forms using Google Form (LOL). Seriously, I have done questionnaire before manually using Microsoft Word!!! Oh my Gucci can you imagine the struggle I have been though finishing the survey manually?

I felt so sick after knowing there is another way of doing it. The most important thing is, so much easier than doing it manually!!! I wanted to cry for not knowing things. How can I call myself as one of the Gen-Z (emotional), but seriously, this is a complete mind-blowing “incident”. It may sound pathetic but this is real! I enjoyed doing the questionnaire requested by Dr. Fariza so not a big deal after all! I think by doing a questionnaire, we got to gather the data easier especially when we are using Google Form. We can simply view the responses we have to know the result. Nope, we do not need to calculate the data manually. Google Form will help us with that. Not just that, Google Form also provide us with the charts based on the responses gathered from the survey.

I used to do the data analysis using Microsoft Word in order to have charts. Again, I did all that manuallyyyyyyyyyyy. Shoot me now hahaha in future, I will use this way every time I wanted to conduct a survey. Oh by the way, our questionnaire is based on our previous presentation. So ours’ is Thinking Skills in ICT. After we came up with the questions, we are looking forward to see the dependencies of students in various higher institutions ICT.

We will submit the form for Dr.Fariza to check it first before we can spread it out for others to answer it. I will update the Google Form soon under Assignment section hehe thank you guys!

WEEK 6 (THINKING SKILLS IN ICT)

10/16/2015

Nervous! Nerve wracking! Excited! Mix feelingssssss. Why? Well because today is the presentation day! So with 3 persons per group, we are required to present a topic & ours’ is Thinking Skills in ICT. ICT is not a new thing for me but considering combining thinking skills & ICT, I think this is a good topic to be presented of.  Well, we came out with a problem faced by students right now.

Students are pretty much too depending on ICT in everything they do & this can harm their thinking skills in the future.  Students simply Google everything & tend to seek for the information from the Internet without any guts to come up with their own perspectives. Of course, we cannot deny the fact that ICT is going to help enhancing our understanding towards certain topics but come to think of it, ICT is going to harm the ability of the students to think critically in their studies.  It is so crucial for us, as a future teacher to produce students that are able to think outside of the box rather than just answer everything by the facts. Just imagine a world with Google, Mozilla or Yahoo. How bad the situation could be?

Hands down, we cannot say no to kids if they insist to use ICT to search for information but it is our concern to make sure they are not TOO depending on it. They should have been monitored all the way to make sure they are on track. There is a risk of producing kids that cannot come up with brilliant ideas if we keep let them stick to the gadgets or laptop all day long. By going to the library to search some good materials to read is not an old school way yet. It is too early to come up with that kind of statement though. We still can consider taking kids to the library so that they still stick to the books rather than only to Google.

Well, that is my opinion. You guys can check out my group’s slides under Assignment section hehe thank you guys!

WEEK 5 (CASPER)

10/2/2015

New week new task new lesson! I feel so good yet so fresh (I don’t even know why) so let’s start writing! So today we were asked to search for materials on topic given by Dr. Fariza. We were cooperating in a group consists of three persons which are Joecy, Ho Yen Yee, and I. This group will remain the same until the end of this semester hehe Dr.  Fariza distributed the topics and my group ended up having Thinking Skills and ICT as our topic.

Thinking Skills in ICT? Hmm never thought of that but we will figure it out soon yea? We were then asked to search for the information based on the topic given and come up with any problems regarding the topic. After went through brain storming, we ended up with one problem regarding this topic. But be patient, I will share with you guys on the next reflection. Is it okay?

Hehe so after we were all finished with the brain storming, we were then asked to gather information about CASPER since we are going to have those criteria in our presentation soon. To be honest, I’ve never heard this term before so I am pretty curious about it. So, I think by following CASPER style for completing our slides, we will end up having a great presentation. The fact that we need to consider so many aspects, even little things, will ensure the slides we going to have is presentable enough to the audiences to not losing their focus during our presentation. I have been through so many presentations and I thought that CASPER criteria are very helpful in order to have better presentation in future. I used to choose bad colours that not suitable for a presentation hahaha everybody went through their childhood phase I supposed >< I noticed that people not considering the wow factor of their presentation that soon made me feel bored from the beginning. Later on, we do not pay attention to the important that particular person is talking about that is going to leave us hanging.

Okay that is all of it hehe I have shared the information on CASPER as well under Assignment section. Feel free to explore! See you guys soon!
