Nervous! Nerve wracking! Excited! Mix feelingssssss. Why? Well because today is the presentation day! So with 3 persons per group, we are required to present a topic & ours’ is Thinking Skills in ICT. ICT is not a new thing for me but considering combining thinking skills & ICT, I think this is a good topic to be presented of. Well, we came out with a problem faced by students right now.
Students are pretty much too depending on ICT in everything they do & this can harm their thinking skills in the future. Students simply Google everything & tend to seek for the information from the Internet without any guts to come up with their own perspectives. Of course, we cannot deny the fact that ICT is going to help enhancing our understanding towards certain topics but come to think of it, ICT is going to harm the ability of the students to think critically in their studies. It is so crucial for us, as a future teacher to produce students that are able to think outside of the box rather than just answer everything by the facts. Just imagine a world with Google, Mozilla or Yahoo. How bad the situation could be?
Hands down, we cannot say no to kids if they insist to use ICT to search for information but it is our concern to make sure they are not TOO depending on it. They should have been monitored all the way to make sure they are on track. There is a risk of producing kids that cannot come up with brilliant ideas if we keep let them stick to the gadgets or laptop all day long. By going to the library to search some good materials to read is not an old school way yet. It is too early to come up with that kind of statement though. We still can consider taking kids to the library so that they still stick to the books rather than only to Google.
Well, that is my opinion. You guys can check out my group’s slides under Assignment section hehe thank you guys!
